Café Europa officially announces expansion to Union Hill neighborhood with breakfast, lunch, dinner, bakeshop and prepared foods market

Restaurant leaders, Chef Nate Feldmiller and long-time general manager Dan Weber, grow roles as owners of Crestwood and Union Hill neighborhood locations

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (May 18, 2016) – Expanding on its already popular Crestwood neighborhood restaurant, Chef Nate Feldmiller and general manager Dan Weber officially announce Café Europa will expand to a second location in Union Hill, one of Kansas City’s oldest neighborhoods.

Café Europa’s second neighborhood location will create a street-facing, large kitchen for the restaurant’s popular baked goods, breads and cakes. The restaurant will add a daily casual breakfast, along with a market of prepared and to-go foods. The exceptional chef-driven seasonal lunch and dinner menus will serve at both Café Europa restaurants, along with new items created specifically for the new location. Café Europa’s Union Hill location will also have an intimate, separate, and full-service bar. After years of requests from customers, the new location will include a private dining space as well as café seating for a place to getaway or plug in throughout the day. A September opening is planned for the Union Hill Café Europa.

The Union Hill Café Europa will open in 3,100 square feet of street-level retail space in the new McGee loft lifestyle building on Gillham Road between 29th and 30th Streets. The building will have access to 150 free garage parking spots and ample street options. Outdoor pet-friendly seating will overlook The Filling Station, the historic Greenlease Cadillac Building and urban neighborhood activity.

The new restaurant will serve the more than 1,000 young professionals, empty nesters, families and socially active residents of Union Hill, as well as the nearby neighborhoods of Hyde Park, Coleman Highlands, Valentine, the Crossroads Arts District and downtown. Café Europa will appeal to the many hospitals, law firms and large employers such as Hallmark and the Federal Reserve for catered lunches and meetings.  Nearby attractions and landmarks include Union Station, the National World War I Museum and Memorial, Crown Center, performing and visual arts and more. Union Hill is also home to two hotels and 39 local businesses.

Andy Atterbury and Gwyn Prentice, the former owners from Kansas City who now reside in Florida, recognized the independent leadership and culinary skills of Weber and Feldmiller that made the Crestwood location a popular neighborhood and area restaurant. “We thank Dan and Nate for their stewardship of Cafe Europa. They are the heart of Café Europa and we are thrilled for them to officially own what they have created as they continue to grow.”

Café Europa is the first announcement for the new retail spaces created in the latest loft and platinum living additions in the McGee Building and soon-to-open Campbell and McCoy Buildings. More new additions are expected to announce soon for signature retail spaces available in Union Hill. The McGee loft building is named after Allan B.H. McGee, one of the Kansas City’s earliest settlers and one of the 14 purchasers of the old Prudhomme Estate, the original townsite of Kansas City. The McGee family is one of many founding families buried in the nearby Union Cemetery, preserving Kansas City’s history.

Union Hill is a true urban neighborhood that is privately-maintained and master-developed in 16 city blocks, nestled between Main Street on the west, Gillham Road on the east, the 31st Street corridor on the south and approximately 29th Street on the north.
