Starting today, you can enjoy lunch from a truck with a side helping of Kansas City history.

Union Hill has announced it will resume its summer sponsorship of Food Truck Friday at Union Cemetery from Fri., May 20 through August 19.

The trucks will serve from 11am to 1:30pm on the third Friday of each month.

This popular lunchtime event is held at the historic Union Cemetery as a fundraiser. Located on the edge of the Union Hill neighborhood, it boasts scenic views of Downtown Kansas City.

Guests can purchase food from any of the three rotating food trucks each month, then sit and enjoy at the picnic tables located in Union Cemetery. One lucky attendee will be selected at each Food Truck Friday to receive a complimentary lunch at the following month’s event.

Upcoming Food Truck Fridays (participating food trucks will be announced prior to each):

  • Friday, May 20 (Pita for Good, KC Pinoy and Greg-Co BBQ)
  • Friday, June 17
  • Friday, July 15
  • Friday, August 19

Established in 1857, Union Hill is one of Kansas City’s oldest continuous neighborhoods, and it is home to the Union Cemetery, which is Kansas City’s oldest public cemetery.

Union Cemetery Historical Society (UCHS) was organized in 1984 under the Kansas City, Missouri Parks and Recreation Department. Its purpose is to collect data about the historic Union Cemetery and to gather biographical information about the people buried here, as well as to protect and preserve the grounds.

Food Truck Friday directly benefits the Union Cemetery Historical Society, with 10 percent of the proceeds donated back to enhance the beauty and preserve Union Cemetery’s history.
