Underdog Wine Co. officially opens Union Hill location

Popular local wine purveyor fills the shelves of its second location on the ground floor of new residential building in downtown neighborhood in time for the holidays

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Nov. 21, 2016) – Locally-owned and popular Underdog Wine Co. opened in Union Hill Nov. 21. Owners, Ryan and Jenny Sciara, opened their second location in a 970 square-foot space at 2984 Gillham Road on the ground floor of the recently completed Loft Lifestyle McGee lofts. Underdog is also steps from the new McCoy lofts and Campbell platinum living buildings with residents moving in and a limited number of leases still available.

Underdog is known for its unique approach to wine, embracing each wine’s tasting notes, organized by flavor profiles of light bodied, medium bodied and full bodied for whites and reds, with special sections for rosés and sparkling wines. The new location has the same intimate feel and organization as the original location in Crestwood and will be open 10 a.m. – 7 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and 11 a.m. – 4 p.m., on Sunday.

As downtown living and development continues to grow, so does the demand for retail and entertainment. The new Underdog serves both and reflects the emerging trend of integrating retail on street level of residential living that is also easily accessible to the surrounding businesses and neighborhoods. The new location serves the more than 1,000 Union Hill residents, as well as the nearby neighborhoods of Longfellow, Hyde Park, Coleman Highlands, Valentine, the Crossroads Arts District and central downtown. Ample dedicated retail parking is available with 150 free garage parking spots in addition to street parking options in the Union Hill community.

We root for the Underdogs. The small production, family owned guys and girls making honest wines. We taste thousands of wines every year and if we don’t like it, we don’t bring it in. We believe in value – whether you want to spend $10 or $200 we will get you the best bottle for your money. Our stock changes regularly as we rotate our favorites in and out. In addition to the more than 400 select wines, we stock a small but well-thought-out selection of artisan spirits, craft beers and bean-to-bar chocolate bars.
