Ragan Building Opens as Newest Platinum-Style Urban Apartment Home Building in Historic Union Hill Neighborhood

KANSAS CITY, MO. (August 22, 2014) – The stone-crafted Ragan Building, a new Platinum Lifestyle apartment home, is officially open in Union Hill. The first new residents are moving in to the Ragan Building, inspired by the timeless buildings of Chicago’s Lincoln Park and the historic surroundings of Union Hill. This building is named after Kansas Citian Jacob Ragan, a veteran of the War of 1812 who once resided on the corner of 37th and Holmes with his family, built Kansas City’s first Christian Church on that site and was an active member of the Kansas Town Company. All existing and new buildings leased by Union Hill are named for a notable Kansas City historical figures buried in the Union Cemetery.

The Ragan Building is the second Platinum Lifestyle option to open in Union Hill, joining the recently opened Taylor Building. Union Hill previously announced the development of five new apartment home buildings, including an additional Platinum building and two Loft buildings that will incorporate retail. The new Platinum and Loft Lifestyle apartment homes create new urban leasing options in a true neighborhood as demand and interest in downtown living and activities increases. The Ragan Building is part of the Union Hill 30-year master plan for redeveloping one of Kansas City’s oldest neighborhoods. Union Hill spans 16 blocks, nestled between Main Street on the west, Gilham Road on the east, the 31st Street corridor on the south and approximately 27th Street on the south.

Similar to the Taylor Building, the Ragan Building is stone crafted with intricate architecture and design on a residential street that complements the other historic homes, townhomes, condominiums and apartments. Each building is fully modern and hard wired for multiple service providers. Based on two years of research, the new buildings add to the strength of the historic neighborhood with their timeless designs.

The new Platinum and Loft Lifestyle options add nearly 200 new lifestyle leasing options for more than 1000 residents in Union Hill. The new buildings are the second phase of the Founders development. The newest Platinum and Loft additions are known as Founders Phase Two. Founders Phase One debuted in 2006 with 227 Platinum and Classic Lifestyle apartment homes, in addition to the redevelopment of the historic Greenlease Cadillac Building into condominiums.

Overlooking Crown Center, Union Hill is near major employers, including Children’s Mercy Hospital, the fully-leased Union Station, multiple major law firms, the Federal Reserve and Hallmark Cards. A short walk from the Crossroads Arts District, Union Hill preserves history and embraces the future of Kansas City with the Kauffman Performing Arts Center, downtown Kansas City and Country Club Plaza as nearby neighbors.

In more than 30 years since the preservation and development began, nearly $200 million has already been invested in the Union Hill neighborhood, building on a history of more than 150 years. Local ownership, development, management and leadership ensure the success and stability of Union Hill as a neighborhood with dining, entertainment, services and green space. The restoration and redevelopment of Union Hill began 30 years ago with developer Bob Frye’s vision and commitment to the neighborhood, building on a history of more than 150 years.
