Underdog Wine Co. announces plans to open a second location in Union Hill

September 14, 2016

Ryan and Jenny Sciara, owners of the unique and highly respected Underdog Wine Co. in Crestwood, officially announce plans to open a second location in November, directly south of the recently announced second location of its Crestwood neighbor, Cafe Europa.

Patrons can expect the Union Hill location to mirror the intimate feel and organization of the original Crestwood location in 970 square feet of street-level retail space on Gillham Road between 29th and 30th Streets, across from the Filling Station, on the ground floor of the recently completed loft lifestyle McGee building. Underdog Wine Co. and Cafe Europa will have ample dedicated retail parking with more than 150 free garage parking spots in addition to street parking options.

Ryan Sciara says they chose Union Hill for their second location because of the long-term local ownership’s commitment to quality and the surrounding density of high median income residents and employees.

Underdog Wine Co.’s second location will continue to feature its unique approach to wine, embracing each wine’s tasting notes, organized by flavor profiles of light bodied, medium bodied and full bodied for whites and reds, with special sections for rosés and sparkling wines. The wine purveyor is continuing its successful and complementary relationship already established with Cafe Europa in the Crestwood Shops for the socially active urban residents.

At the Union Hill Underdog Wine Co., The Sciaras with their team will also create options for corporate events, dinner parties and social activities. The new location will serve the more than 1,000 young professionals, empty nesters, families and socially active residents of Union Hill, as well as the nearby neighborhoods of Longfellow, Hyde Park, Coleman Highlands, Valentine, the Crossroads Arts District and central downtown. Underdog Wine will appeal to the many hospitals, law firms and large employers such as Children’s Mercy, Hallmark and the Federal Reserve.

A 1,400 square foot space is available adjacent to Underdog and Cafe Europa. Union Hill is currently exploring options with multiple concepts and hopes to announce a new tenant in the upcoming months.
