20th annual Union Hill Garden Tour – June 14, 2015

Kansas City, Mo. (April 30, 2015) – The public is invited to experience the beauty of one of Kansas City’s oldest neighborhoods during the 2015 Union Hill Garden Tour on Sunday, June 14 as community and private residents’ gardens will be open for viewing. Self-guided tours will be available from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. and proceeds from the Garden Tour will donate to the Union Cemetery Historical Society, a nonprofit with a mission to restore, maintain, and preserve the burial records of Union Cemetery, Kansas City, Missouri’s oldest public cemetery.

In addition to the self-guided tours, a string-quartet from the UMKC Conservatory of Music and Dance will perform live, classical music from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. in the neighborhood gazebo located just to the north of 30th Street and Grand Avenue. Local vendors and artisans will sell plants and gardening goods throughout the neighborhood and the Union Cemetery Historical Society will sell copies of the cemetery’s official history book, Kansas City’s Historic Union Cemetery: Lessons for the Future from the Garden of Time. Neighborhood restaurants will also offer special discounts to Garden Tour attendees.

Location:             Union Hill Neighborhood

The self-guided tours will begin at 31st Street and Grand Avenue

Admission:         $10 for adults, $8 for seniors (60 years and up), children under 12 are free

Parking:               Complimentary parking will be available in the KCPL lots at 31st Street and Grand Avenue
