Union Hill celebrates neighborhood past and present with reception launching Union Cemetery history book and new apartment home building

Kansas City, Mo. (Nov. 7, 2014)As Union Hill continues construction to fully complete the historic neighborhood’s residential component, the public is invited to preview the first-of-its-kind building in the neighborhood, the McGee Building. The preview event is coupled with the launch of “Kansas City’s Historic Union Cemetery: Lessons for the Future from the Garden of Time,” a book commemorating the final resting place of some of the area’s most notable historical figures. Co-written by more than a dozen authors and published by Kansas City Star Books, the piece explores the fertile history of Union Cemetery through magnificent photography and the magnified lens of the descendants whose ancestors are buried there. Five of the book’s authors, as well as descendants of notable Kansas City “Legacy Families” buried in the cemetery, will be on hand during the event for readings and signings. A portion of the proceeds from each book benefit the Union Cemetery Historical Society.

The Union Hill Historical Society board members will conduct guided walking tours of Union Cemetery prior to the reception.
