Union Hill Unveils $5 Million Development of Largest and Only New Urban In-Fill Homes for Ownership

Kansas City’s Oldest Continuous Neighborhood Adds Four Home Styles – Cape Cod, Federal, Shirtwaist and Victorian – Fully Funded by Owner of Union Hill

KANSAS CITY, MO. (April XX, 2014) – Union Hill, Kansas City’s oldest continuous neighborhood, founded in 1857, is growing, launching the largest home development in the area with the construction of nearly $5 million in new in-fill housing available for ownership. The four home styles are two Cape Cod, six Shirtwaist, three Federal and two Victorian. The new Cape Cod and Shirtwaist homes will unveil in late April 2014. The new homes are each built with the highest integrity in the tradition of each unique style further adding to the character of Union Hill’s residential district.

Union Hill continues to develop and build upon a 100-year master plan for the only combined residential and retail district with nearly 1000 residents, extensive green space, restaurants and retail for the urban minded that still seek the feeling of a neighborhood with the convenience of the many nearby downtown and Plaza arts, entertainment and shopping destinations. Each of the homes will have a 15-year tax abatement. Existing homes in Union Hill have maintained or exceeded home values in recent years with a solid resale performance.

William Rockhill Nelson built the first Cape Cod homes on DeGroff Street for Kansas City Star employees more than 100 years ago. The new Cape Cod homes are next door to the original ones that are occupied by families and long-time residents, complete with front porches on a small walkable street. The Shirtwaist homes are one block over with a brick and wood design complementing the neighboring houses.

All of the homes are under development by the primary leader and visionary of Union Hill, Bob Frye, committed to the urban neighborhood with an additional $1.2 million streetscape improvement planned. The singular local majority ownership and leadership establishes Union Hill as a solid and financially strong neighborhood district. Young professionals and empty nesters call the Union Hill neighborhood and district home in the multiple residential options.
